Annotation:The periodical Statistical Environmental Yearbook of the Czech Republic, the nineteenth in succession, appears as a joint publication of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic and of the Czech Statistical Office. In accordance with Act No. 123/1998 Sb. On Access to Information on the Environment, as amended, and Directive 2003/4/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council from 28th January 2003 On Public Access to Environmental Information it provides a review of the state of the environment in the Czech Republic. In the yearbook, the reader may find concrete data and information on the driving forces and pressures for environmental changes, some impacts of these changes and tools used for implementation and control of the environmental policy. The Report on the Environment in the Czech appears simultaneously with the Statistical Environmental Yearbook and is presented yearly by the Minister of the Environment for approval to the Government of the Czech Republic and for discussion in the Parliament of the Czech Republic. These two materials present an entirety; the Statistical Environmental Yearbook comprises data and facts without comments, containing only a basic explanation of the creation of the individual indicators. The Report to the Government consists, on the other hand, in analyses of the state of the environment based on these data and indicates the follow-up process related to the principal document of the Ministry of the Environment – the State Environmental Policy. The integration of environmental aspects into the policies of the economic sectors and the harmonisation with the European Union constitutes the main orientation of the state environmental policy. This year’s edition also contains an enlarged chapter on international comparison of selected indicators that characterise the state of the environment.
